Remember those sweet euro plates I made that time? Well, good news, you can buy them !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ! Ignore the $30 in the picture; it ended up having to be $40 plus shipping, but here they are. Available for all 50 States and all 13 Canadian provinces! Your money (depending on how scholarships go) will go towards one of three things: 1) College, if I don’t get a full ride, 2) Gas, because I drive a two-and-a-half-ton, V8 SUV in a densely populated area, sometimes a bit aggresively, or 3) modifying said SUV. I need some new speakers and some WeatherTech floor liners would be nice. Anyway, buy one if you like them, or buy one for someone else; it makes a great car guy Christmas gift. Thanks and much love to you guys! Sorry I haven’t been around here for a little while but finishing high school hasn’t been leaving me with much free time.

Since Arizona isn’t a front plate state, I am seriously considering pulling my CA front plate and slapping an AZ-Euro style one on. If I were to do something shorter than eight characters would it be possible to center the letters on the plate? Also, is mounting compatible with US plate brackets? I don’t really want to redrill the bumper...

I’m considering getting a Nova Scotia-style one for my FIAT 126p for when I get one imported!
As a suggestion, you might want to make those little circle maps of each province/state (well, at least the provinces on the Canadian ones) a bit darker...they are VERY hard to see on some of them, especially the white ones...? At least to me anyway...

I believe it was you that did mine.
Well I extended it out to the side, found a company and a great guy who is the Ford authorised manufacturer and seller of Ford Escort Mk2 Mexico and rally car decals, he tweaked the image and digitised it, printed it onto a silver reflective film made it into licence plates.
They look fantastic, thank you so much.

1) Yes, the text will be justified, but I would stick with 6-8 chars.
2) I can send it to you with no holes drilled at all, or I can drill US-spec mounting holes for you. (just specify at checkout I guess)

You see the thing is that my front bumper is molded for a euro plate and the US plate is on a kind of insert into that spot. The euro plate is just a much cleaner installation.

is kanji
is hiragana
Kanji are ideograms (picture words). My name means “trout river,” hiragana and katakana are syllabaries. For instance is ki and is o. Japanese license plates have a city name in kanji, a number, a hiragana, and two pairs of numbers. So it might look like:
501 12 - 34
Not my license plate, obviously.

Damn. I mean we have front plates anyway (though New Mexico does not), but I’ve seen people with seemingly custom versions, some appear DIY but with the legal plate number. Even if I couldn’t replace the front plate I was given, I thought it’d be cool to affix it to the grill or something with the same plate number.
Well, hmm. I’m thinking. What if we did 5011234, and then put some kind of red lettering next to NM for , like even if it was just like red vinyl? I know it’d mean covering the shadow state shape a bit, but that seems like it could work... Be even better if it could be painted on...

The could maybe replace the NM outline? And fyi I have no idea how much shipping would be for Japan and the custom stuff might be an extra $5 or so. And each individual design is printed on.

Naw, I’d have you send it to my NM address. I’m in ABQ for two weeks. I’d just bring it back on the plane with me.
I’d want to keep the NM where it is, but I was thinking in smaller lettering, put the (well, my actual city, which I am not sharing here for obvious reasons). Like this:
Looks pretty good, honestly.

I have a really honest and naive question that I hope isn’t offensive, but seeing as that really is a component of the Mississippi flag, what can be used in substitution? IMO it would suck to be unable to rep your state because of some outdated symbology stuck to your state flag.

You could always move to Hernando or Olive Branch (just south of Memphis proper). Some parts are just as nice as the nice parts of Memphis’s suburbs, but for a lot less money. Nashville is the nicer place to live by a good bit, but it’s getting very populated very quickly (something like an average of 300 people per day move there) and cost of living is much higher than in Memphis (and Memphis isn’t all bad anyway). And as for our Vols, I, for one, am actually pretty pumped that Phil Fulmer’s in as AD.

Don’t wanna live anywhere near Memphis though. Just never been a fan of that area. I like Nashville and Knoxville and so does my wife. Would be a big change for us since we live in a city of only about 65k people, but I think we would get on fine.

Chattanooga is very nice too, but I feel like a lot of people kind of forget about it. It would be less of a change as I think it’s only around 300k people I think. My mom was born here in Memphis but lived in a suburb called Hixson from her 4th grade year thru senior year and loved it. It’s a very nice small city with plenty of stuff to do. Dunno if y’all have kids, but there’s plenty of good schools, public and private. And it’s close to a lot of other places. ~2 hrs away from ATL, ~3 from Nash, and even less from Knox and the smokies.

We would go to Chattanooga for vacation when I was little and stay on Lookout Mountain. I don’t remember where exactly, but there was a little tram we would ride that went up and down the side of one of the mountains and would bring you down into the city. There was a toy store we’d go to that had a ton of wooden train sets and vehicles and other things that I absolutely loved. That was over 25 years ago, though, and I haven’t been back since. Maybe I should take the wife one day to see how much it has changed.
I guess what turned me off of Memphis was it just reminded me of a different New Orleans. The crime rate was bad, there were homeless people everywhere, etc. My ex-wife had a friend who stayed in a high rise right in downtown Memphis so I don’t know a whole lot about the suburbs aside from around Bartlett since they had some friends who lived somewhere around there too.
We have a 9 year old and a 5 year old, so finding a good school district would be a very big deal for us. That’s one reason why we wanted to look closer to Nashville or Knoxville.

By the way, I noticed you showed a 6-character plate that wasn’t evenly spaced out? Is that how they are all made? My plate is also 6 characters and is one word (name of a city). I was hoping it would be less spaced out.

Chattanoogs is a lot more metropolitan now than then, I’m sure. The aquarium is like the second largest in the world, too.
As for Memphis, yeah the crime rate is high and homeless population is an issue, but you just have to know where not to go and when. Where I live in East Memphis, crime is very low, and in Germantown (east of E Memphis), it’s even lower (cops are notorious sticklers there). It’s not nonexistent, but our cost of living is something like 10% below the nat’l average for a reason.
There really are a lot of redeeming factors though. We have fantastic food (Central BBQ is the best BBQ in town and don’t let anyone tell you different), an NBA team (even though we’re really sucking it up right now), a MiLB team with a really nice stadium, a steadily improving college football program with U of M, plenty of places to take your kids, and as generally terrible as our public schools (there are some exceptions) are, our private schools are absolutely fantastic and on the whole the best in the state (and very generous (speaking of, we’re the most generous city in the country) with financial aid were you to need it). The one which I attend might have more Nat’l Merit recipients than the others combined, and I’ve loved my six years there.
I would not have said all of this about Memphis two years ago. We moved last summer to a larger house about 7 minutes away from our old one, but it’s north of the city’s main road rather than south, and therefore in a generally less-crime area, and ever since, I’ve really started to love this city.
A lot of your perspective comes from where you live, and if you can find a nice place here, I think you’d like it more. However, I understand why you’re not crazy about it and, yes, as a city Nashville is absolutely the nicer place to live. Still would take Memphis over Knoxville in a heartbeat despite the scenery.
